About Thelema Mountain Vineyards:
After leaving his accounting career to become a winemaker Gyles Webb and the McLeans, his in-laws, purchased Thelema in 1983. The manor house was restored and the first wines under the Thelema label were released in 1988. By the mid 1990’s, their wines sold out within a month of release, making it one of the most sought-after wine estates in South Africa. The Webb family describe Thelema as “one of the most beautiful places on earth”.  Situated on the southeastern side of the Simonsberg Mountain, with elevations 1739 feet above sea level and mainly south-facing slopes, Thelema Mountain Vineyards possesses some of the highest elevations in Stellenbosch, South Africa. These high altitudes and the rich red soils are ideal for premium quality wine grape production. The Webb family believes grape quality is the single most important factor in serious winemaking; their policy is one of minimum interference, allowing the wines to be a true expression of each vineyard.

Thelema Mountain Vineyards lightThelema Mountain Vineyards’ crest showcases a phoenix. This sacred phoenix appears in ancient Arabian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Chinese and Indian mythology, but it also symbolizes the birth of Thelema since it is present on both sides of the families. The McLeans owned the Phoenix Garden Hotel in Kimberley, and there is a phoenix on the Webb family crest. To learn more about the family winery and their history, click here.

Hope Family wines to be tasted

About Hope Family Wines:
In 1978, Austin Hope’s family settled in Paso Robles, establishing vineyards and apple orchards. Unaware of Paso Robles’ future as a premier wine growing region, they continued farming. Today, Hope Family Wines thrives with six distinct brands: Liberty School, Treana, Quest, Austin Hope, Troublemaker, and the newest addition, Austin. Recognitions include Austin Hope being named the 2019 “Wine Person of the Year” by Paso Robles, their 2017 Austin Hope label ranking #10 on Wine Enthusiast’s “Top 100 Enthusiast Wines of the World,” and their recent accolade as Wine Enthusiast’s American Winery of the Year in 2022. Learn more about their story here.

Sustainability:
Hope Family Wines is committed to sustainable growing practices that promote vine health, improve wine quality, and ensure that growers remain profitable. The number of tractor passes is kept to a minimum, protecting the integrity of the root structures and avoiding compacting the soil. Hope Family Wines works actively with the Central Coast Vineyard Team to promote best practices in the vineyards. They also use self-assessment tools put together by the Wine Institute and the California Association of Winegrape Growers to gauge progress and identify areas for improvement over time. This multi-pronged approach to growing, from winter pruning through fall harvest, ensures we use only the finest grapes for each of our labels.

SIP Certified:
Chuck and Austin Hope believe their stewardship of their estate vineyard reaches far beyond the vineyard rows to ensure the ecosystem thrives. They’ve created wildlife corridors so the native quail, deer and maybe a wild boar or two, can pass through the vineyard. Their estate vineyards are SIP Certified ensuring they focus on preservation and protection of natural and human resources.  Learn more about their sustainability efforts >

About Austin Hope – Winemaker & President:
Austin Hope began his journey in Paso Robles in 1978 when his family acquired a ranch. Assigned to work in the vineyards as punishment by his father, Chuck Hope, a young Austin surprised everyone by embracing the task at just eight years old. While studying Fruit Science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in California, Austin’s family laid the groundwork for Treana Winery. When his uncle passed away in 1996, Chuck turned to Austin to lead the business. Teaming up with winemaker Chris Phelps, Austin ventured into producing red table wine from Paso Robles, then a lesser-known region. His boldness paid off; today, Austin continues to expand his wine portfolio, driven by his unwavering commitment to showcasing Paso Robles’ essence in every bottle.

About Ancient Peaks Winery:
Ancient Peaks Winery and Margarita Vineyard are owned by three longtime local winegrowing and ranching families – the Filipponis, Rossis and Wittstroms. Two generations are actively involved in the daily operations of the vineyard and winery. Grapes were first planted at the Santa Margarita Ranch by Franciscan missionaries in 1780, but the area’s history began with the Chumash and Salian Native Americans more than 10,000 years ago. The modern viticultural era at the ranch began with the planting of Margarita Vineyard by the famed Robert Mondavi family starting in 1999. The Mondavis saw immense potential in the land with diverse soils and marine-influenced climate.

In 2005, the ranch owners – Filipponi, Rossi and Wittstrom families – had an opportunity to buy the original lease from the Robert Mondavi Winery and take full ownership and control of the Margarita Vineyard. The Margarita Vineyard estate resides in Santa Margarita Ranch AVA and stands alone as the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles region, tucked against the Santa Lucia Mountains and just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean – the coolest micro-climate in Paso. Ancient Peaks’ wines are crafted under the guidance of Founding Winemaker Mike Sinor and Winemaker Stewart Cameron. Vineyard Manager, Jamie Muniz, has been working at the ranch since the first grapes were planted in 1999. Together, they are committed to making wines that capture the extraordinary character and flavors of the Margarita Vineyard Estate. Learn more about their story here.

SIP certified logoSustainability:
The Margarita Vineyard was planted in 1999 as a model for sustainability.  Today, Ancient Peaks continues to implement numerous sustainable viticultural practices to ensure natural quality in their wines while protecting the rich native environment surrounding the vineyard. Their practices have earned SIP (Sustainability In Practice) Certification for their Margarita Vineyard, the leading standard for viticultural sustainability.  Learn more about their sustainability efforts >

Tooth and Nail_Wines_Bottle Shots

About Tooth & Nail Wine Co.:
Founded by grower Rob Murray, Tooth & Nail Wine Company followed a path of true grit and determination to find success in Paso Robles, a tough place to grow grapes and make wine. Rather than battle nature, he bottled it–fighting tooth and nail to create wines that embrace the elements in the pursuit of excellence and for people who simply love wine. The Tooth & Nail winery and vineyard resides in the Willow Creek District AVA of Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast. Willow Creek is a small district in the path of the cool marine air that flows through the Templeton Gap, a notch in the coastal mountains. It is home to some of the largest calcareous soil formations in North America. Tooth & Nail also sources grapes from other Paso Robles vineyards that are under their viticultural control—enabling Tooth & Nail to grow the fruit to their exact specifications and to build natural complexity into their wines. Learn more about the Tooth & Nail story here.

About Jeremy Leffert, Director of Winemaking:

Jeremy Leffert

Director of Winemaking, Jeremy Leffert © Tooth & Nail Wine Co.

All Tooth & Nail, Amor Fati, Destinata and Stasis wines are made under the guidance of Jeremy. Born in California and raised in Minnesota, Jeremy always had a deep interest in the natural world.  After completing his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies with a focus in Natural History at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Jeremy relocated back to California. Soon after moving to Santa Barbara, he discovered the world of Central Coast wine and felt particularly drawn to the vineyards that surrounded him.

After meeting Dr. Keith Patterson, the famed wine and viticulture professor at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Jeremy was inspired to enroll in the university’s masters program in Crop Science with a focus in Viticulture. Throughout his time at Cal Poly, Jeremy’s passion exceeded his desire to learn as he strove to perfect his viticultural knowledge and abilities. Jeremy began his winemaking journey working at Four Vines Winery. He has been rooted in the Paso Robles winemaking community ever since, ultimately leading to his position as Director of Winemaking at Tooth and Nail Wine Company starting in 2015. Reserve your spot and join us November 8th to learn more about Jeremy and Tooth and Nail Wine Co.’s winery and wines.

About Old Bridge Cellars:
In a time where ‘big company’ buyouts, increasing consolidation and mass production are growing more popular, Old Bridge Cellars continues to bring us a group of fiercely independent winemakers who retain their belief in artisan winemaking. Coming to know their land through generations before them, they have an intuitive understanding, quiet confidence and immense desire to produce only the best they can from each vintage. Representing these highly sought after wines since 1990, Old Bridge Cellars has become the US importer of choice – especially for iconic Australian wines. Learn more about their story here.

About Maison l’Envoyé, France:
MLE_LogoMeaning, ‘The House of the Messenger’, Maison L’Envoyé traverses the globe with the intention of presenting the acme of regionality and winemaking styles. With winemaking footprints in Burgundy, Beaujolais, and the Willamette Valley, they champion many unsung growers who have farmed their vineyards for decades and generations, some mere feet away from more illustriously cited neighbors. In Burgundy, Maison L’Envoyé’s winemaking team is based in the town of Beaune, drawing from several sites including the Premier Cru, Savigny Les Beaune ‘Les Marconnets’ and their own monopole, Chateau Vivier, in Beaujolais’ Fleurie cru. This project has been a standout since its debut in 2011 including Wine & Spirits naming Maison L’Envoyé a ‘Winery To Watch’ in 2015.  Join us for this incredible tasting to learn more about Maison l’Envoye wines!

About Joel Tilbrook:
Joel-Tilbrook-Profile

© Winemaker, Joel Tilbrook

Winemaker Joel Tilbrook maintains that with these wines it’s more about what they DON’T do. Devil’s Corner vineyards produce expressive fruit with bright cool-climate acidity – Joel’s winemaking is all about showcasing these natural qualities.  His wines are fruit-driven wines, occasionally adding complexity through whole bunches in the ferment, aging on the lees with occasional stirring, using open fermenters, natural yeasts, cold soaks, basket pressing and minimal fining and filtration before bottling. When oak is used it is 100% French from 10 different coopers and a range of toast levels.
Joel has also held roles of Winemaker, Senior Winemaker, Winery Manager, Chief Winemaker and most recently General Manager of Winemaking and Supply Chain at Brown Family Wine Group (family-owned), the parent company of Brown Brothers, Innocent Bystander, Devil’s Corner, Tamar Ridge and Pirie.  Joel is passionate about growing the best quality grapes and crafting wines that over deliver in terms of value and quality.
Learn more about Joel and Devil’s Corner here.

About Devil’s Corner:
Devil’s Corner on Tasmania’s east coast is one of the wildest and relentless environments on earth. The name derives from sailors who discovered a treacherous bend of the Tasmania Tamar River and named it Devil’s Corner.  Today, it is home to some of the most stunning vineyards in Tasmania and the highest quality, approachable, and cool climate wines. Devil’s Corner farms all of their own vineyards, using holistic and sustainable viticultural practices, including 5,000 sheep for weed suppression and building soil health. In 2023, Devil’s Corner vineyards and winery were certified sustainable by Sustainable Winegrowers Australia (SWA). Learn more about their winery here.Devil's Corner_Map

About Tamar Ridge:
Tamar Ridge, named after its location, sits high on the western slopes of the Tasmania’s Tamar Valley overlooking the Tamar River. For over 20 years, the winemakers have balanced the art and science of winemaking to craft elegant and multi-dimensional Pinot Noir wines that are regarded as among Tasmania’s – and the world’s – best. Learn more about the winery here.Tamar Ridge_Map

About Innocent Bystander:
Innocent Bystander is a privately owned, estate-based wine grower and winemaker in the Yarra Valley, one hour east of Melbourne. First released in 2003, Innocent Bystander is forever expanding its horizons to craft wines reflecting the purest interpretation of each varietal. This means, where necessary, they explore different regions to find the highest quality fruit available for each wine they produce. Learn more about their winery here.Innocent Bystander_Map
