GROWING SEASON:
The 2021 growing season was preceded by a dry winter, with only one large storm system that provided considerable rainfall in February. A period of light rain in July also replenished the soil with much-needed moisture. While the summer season was marked by periodic heat waves, the weather cooled down by mid-August and remained that way through harvest. This cooling trend allowed the fruit to enjoy exceptional hang time. In the end, low yields and small berries provided wines with fine balance and vivid varietal flavors.

VITICULTURE:
The phenolics produced on this mountain are known to be among the highest in the world, fostering an immensity of color, depth, and structure. To extract the purest and most elevated expression of this terroir, purposeful omission is required. Only select vineyard rows are chosen for PATRIMONY cultivation. By the time the fruit is aggressively thinned, optically sorted, and used only for its free-run juice, a minimal percentage of the total potential yield meets the exacting standard they set for PATRIMONY. Fermentation proceeds exclusively with wild yeasts cultured from DAOU Mountain, imbuing the wine with native texture and character.

Patrimony is the creation of brothers Daniel Daou and Georges Daou, founders of DAOU Vineyards & Winery. Their goal, to create the highest-quality Bordeaux-style wines possible. They believe that great wine is made in the vineyard and that no detail should be left unexplored. The 2022 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerhouse wine. It opens with bold black cherry, black currant, and dark chocolate aromas. The palate offers abundant dark brambly fruit flavors – blackberry, blueberry, cocoa, and spice. Velvety tannins carry this wine through the long, elegant finish. Enjoy paired with bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese, lamb chops with garlic and herbs, or a variety of hearty meat dishes.

VINEYARDS:
The Knights Valley Cabernet is from the winery’s high elevation vineyards with rocky, well-draining soils. This warmer growing appellation is ideal for Bordeaux varieties and lend to wines known for their structure. Two primary vineyards make up this blend, lying between 500-1,400 feet in elevation, with a combination of soils from cobbly clay and sandy loam to ancient, weathered sandstone. These 30 year old vines are planted on ridges of steep and rugged terrain flanked by ravines. The grapes tend to ripen later in the season, giving a long-hang time with balanced, ripe fruit and well-integrated tannins. 

VINTAGE:
Minimal rainfall and mild temperatures contributed to drought-like conditions throughout Sonoma County. With a warmer than average winter and spring, bud-break was two weeks ahead of average. The summer was warm and dry with a few short heat spikes, resulting in long hang-time and beautifully ripened fruit.

WINEMAKING:
Grapes are sorted and destemmed before a 3-day cold soak. Pump overs are conducted one to two times daily for the duration of primary fermentation. Once fermentation is finished, the wine is drained and pressed to 85% French oak and 15% American oak (40% new barrels) for malolactic fermentation and 16 months of barrel aging.

BOLD WINE STYLE

The 2018 Cinq Cépages opens with inviting aromas of cassis, blackberry jam, a touch of dried currants, leather, and soft nutmeg and cardamom spice notes. The palate offers more dark fruits with rich, ripe, jammy fruit, black cherries, plums and cassis and notes of vanilla and maple spice. The wine is well structured with silky tannins leading to a satisfying finish. Rewarding and ready for enjoyment now, the 2018 vintage will also evolve over time with proper cellaring.

Varietal: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot

Cooperage: Aged 20 months in 100% French oak (49% new)
Pairing: Enjoy with pork tenderloin and cherry compote, or grilled New York steak with a demi-glace for an ultra-decadent meal.

VINEYARDS:
Cinq Cépages is the flagship wine of Chateau St. Jean. Each year, their winemaker selects fruit from outstanding and proven Bordeaux varietal vineyards to craft a wine that showcases the very best of Sonoma County. The primary grape sources for the 2018 vintage are from some of the finest appellations throughout Sonoma County. The majority is from Sonoma Valley, where cabernet sauvignon from the Monte Rosso and Mountain Terraces vineyards in the Moon Mountain add structure, alongside selections from the valley including Chateau St. Jean Estate Vineyard malbec. The Louvau vineyard in Dry Creek offers merlot with lush juiciness and texture, while the Stuhlmuller Vineyard in Alexander Valley brings fruit with savory, dried herb notes and bright berry flavors.

VINTAGE:
A near perfect season, welcomed after several tense vintages, began with abundant February rains followed by drying sun and weather that allowed for even flowering and bud break. The slightly later start was followed by consistently ideal weather, with harvest later in September, resulting in fruit with great flavor and complexity.

ABOUT THE WINERY AND CHATEAU:
Chateau St. Jean roots are in Sonoma County. Their iconic Chateau dates back to the 1920s by Earnest and Maude Goff, the original owners who designed and constructed their summer home. The Goff’s had established their family fortune in the iron ore mines of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Pacific Northwest lumber and came to California from Saginaw, Michigan with their four sons and one daughter. White wines grew on their property until the onset of Prohibition.  In the early 1970s, Ken Sheffield, Bob, and Ed Merzoian who were grape growers and shippers, focused their attention on the 250 acres of the Goff estate. Chateau St. Jean was founded in 1973 and have been making wines from the region’s diverse vineyards for over 50 years. A fine wine estate with European style, they are proud to produce balanced and elegant wines, a hallmark of Chateau St. Jean. BOLD WINE STYLE

The Heritage Cabernet is made using grapes grown in vineyards throughout Napa Valley. A significant portion of the grapes are from the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, their home AVA, which is known to give Cabernet richness and depth of flavor without overwhelming tannins. Significant percentages of the Cabernet grapes also come from vineyards located in Pope Valley and Rutherford which help to give the blend roundness and softness.

VINTAGE:
The 2022 growing season in Napa Valley and Sonoma County was nearly ideal. There were some continuing effects of the ongoing drought, but most viticulturists were able to deftly manage their irrigation regimes to adapt. At the beginning of September there was a record-breaking heat wave, some Napa Valley locations experienced temperatures over 115ºF for nearly a week. This extreme heat sped up ripening in most varieties and led to an early and compact harvest.

WINEMAKING:
The grapes for this wine are harvested at night or in the early morning hours to ensure optimum quality when received at the winery. The grapes are destemmed prior to transferring to the fermentation tank, where the grapes ferment over the course of 2 – 3 weeks. The wine is routinely pumped over during fermentation to fully extract all the wonderful color, flavor and tannin from the grapes. When fermentation is finished, the resulting wine is drained from the tank, the skins are gently pressed to capture all the wine, and the young wine is pumped to barrels to start maturing. Malolactic fermentation finishes within a few months of the wine going to barrel, and the wine continues to age for the planned 18 months of maturation time. The barrels are racked twice during this aging time, which helps to clarify the wine. The wine lots are finally blended a few weeks before bottling.

ABOUT THE WINERY:
From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, the Silverado Trail was home to cattle and horse ranching. In the 1950s, Richard Tam and Ben Hardister built the Silverado Horseman’s Center covering 32 acres along the southern end of Silverado Trail. The original facility featured an equestrian center with an indoor riding track, 36 horse stalls, and a grandstand for indoor riding events. The property also included an outdoor arena with a grandstand that sat 3,000 people, a half mile race track, recreation buildings, private paddock, riding trails and a stallion breeding center. The center thrived until the 1990s. The original riding area now houses prized wines, instead of prize-winning horses. However Black Stallion Estate Winery carries its heritage forward. The estate’s legacy honors the world-class terroir of Napa Valley, the pioneering spirit of the Silverado Trail, and the Indelicato family’s warm hospitality and generations of wine expertise. The opaque core of the 2023 Mercury Head flashes with a neon crimson rim. Mesmerizing in the glass, the wine opens with notes of blackcurrant, Amarena cherry, California chaparral and an elegant kiss of oak. The palate is effusive with hints of ripe blue fruits, blood orange, dark chocolate and rhubarb, rich and layered as the wine continues to open. Fully integrated tannins are paired with an elegant and nuanced close of blackberry preserves and licorice.

Already proclaimed as one of the best vintages in Napa Valley history, 2023 not only produced fruit of the highest quality, but lots of it. A long, cool growing season allowed flavors to develop without any pressure to pick prematurely. Sourced from the Stagecoach, Morisoli, Indian Joe and Warnock vineyards, the 2023 Mercury Head is one to hold onto for decades.

Pouring an opaque crimson core with a brooding cardinal rim, the 2022 Papillon opens with aromatic notes of ripe cassis, blackberry, coastal chaparral, cedar box and allspice. On entry, the palate continues many of the same notes from the nose—cassis, pluot, blueberry, boysenberry, shaved fennel bulb and a touch of earth. A round, weighty mid-palate effortlessly gives way to dusty, coating tannins—a pleasing texture—and finishing hints of barbecue tri-tip, Madagascar vanilla and toffee.

WINEMAKING NOTES:
A wine of juxtapositions, Papillon’s Napa Valley Bordeaux blend is comprised of all five varietals. French for ‘butterfly’, Papillon elicits an amalgamation of emotional responses; a delicate butterfly and the weathered hands of a farmer; a boisterous wine that also has an elegant side. Sourced from across Napa, much of the wine is made from the Stagecoach Vineyard with a small portion of fruit coming from just over the county line at the Monte Rosso Vineyard. Together, each varietal lends its own strengths and personalities to produce a blend hardly seen anymore today.

ABOUT THE WINERY:
Established in 1998 by Dave Phinney, the name comes from Dave’s father’s middle name, Orin, and his mother’s maiden name, Swift. Though Dave grew up in California, it was in Italy where his obsession began. In 1995, what was originally billed as a semester studying abroad, turned into an immersion on all aspects of wine. By 1997, Dave was all in and landed his winery job at Robert Mondavi as a temporary harvest worker. He learned a lot, including that he wanted to make his own wine. WINEMAKING NOTES:
The Louis Bovet Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon embodies a sharp focus on aspects of Rutherford terroir. It comes from the most expressive blocks on their Rutherford estate vineyard and from the best lots in the winery, these vineyard blocks grow in gravelly and sandy soils in our Rutherford vineyard’s eastern edge. These vines grow small, intensely concentrated grapes which translate to dark fruited, structured wines. A true magnifying glass showcasing what the estate can produce, this wine is complex and layered, with rich fruit profiles showcasing the ultimate in finesse and balance. This wine is age worthy and deserving of a place of honor in your cellar and on your table.

VINTAGE & VITICULTURE:
The 2021 vintage was marked by a second season of drought. The temperatures remained relatively mild, however the dry conditions resulted in smaller, more concentrated grapes with lighter yields and one of the earliest harvest windows to date. Cabernet Sauvignon and other red varieties are planted on loose, alluvial soils derived from the volcanic Vaca Mountains and the “California sprawl” trellis systems provide excellent vine balance and diverse sun exposures.

ABOUT LOUIS BOVET:
Bovet is Co-Founder Jan MacDonnell’s maiden name, and with this wine she is honoring her grandfather Louis. His passion for home winemaking and creating a self sustaining estate for himself and his children inspire Jan every day at Round Pond Estate. The icon on the label depicts the old wooden stamp that Louis used on the label of his homemade wine and the three bands on the capsule depict the three generations of family currently living on the property.

The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious rainfall. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season, not without its moments of unpredictability, helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit with abundant hang time teasing out great color, structure and soft tannins.

The wine is beautifully supple with a broadly fanned aromatic spectrum and an effortless depth of fruit. From a center point on the palate, the 2019 vintage undulates outward in all directions. Gentle, velvety swells pause and fold in on themselves, their liquid whorls of refined tannin and gratifying acidity gliding across the surface of smooth curves before retreating gradually to reveal, on the finish, the burnished dimensions beneath.

The Mascot is a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon made from distinct hillside vineyards: specifically, the younger vines of Harlan Estate, BOND, and Promontory.

About The Mascot:
Founded by Will Harlan, The Mascot began as a small, informal project shared among the family, the winemaking team and a handful of close friends. Drawing fruity from recently replanted blocks within the vineyards, The Mascot reveals its distinguished pedigree while offering insight into the evolution of its parent properties: a youthful promise of their future. With the 2008 vintage the family had enough wine – 500 cases – to introduce the endeavor to the outside world; releasing the first bottles in 2013. Vintage Notes:
Winter leading into the 2019 growing season delivered impressive rainfall (nearly 30 inches in the first four months) that lasted into May. The cool, wet spring delayed budbreak; yet this respite in a sequence of mostly arid years imbued the young vines with renewed energy. This potential for vigor required thor- ough and thoughtful pruning, early in the season, to ensure that energy would be most nobly directed: to maturing the fruit. Early autumn was met with even and steady warmth, and picking commenced in mid-September and stretched across five and a half weeks. This “leisurely” approach allowed for collection of the fruit in precise, well-delineated passes, and the wine extracted from these berries confirmed their decision to, in places, wait a little longer.

Winemaker:
Each of the three “parent” properties contributes components to The Mascot, and the winemaking teams – led by Cory Empting, Director of Winegrowing for the family domain – work collaboratively to weave together the final blend.

Terroir:
The Mascot is crafted from the younger vines of the three parent properties. Within the Napa Valley, hillside vineyards make up a miniscule percentage of planted acreage. The Harlan family has spent the past 40 years identifying the very finest and rarest of these sites.

Farming:
The vines contributing to The Mascot range from 5 to 12 years old. The parent properties are replanted about twice per century, with a continual supply of young vines. Replanting began over a decade ago at BOND, Harlan Estate and Promontory. The process involves replanting with cover crops to support the soil ecosystem without tilling, maintaining continuity between vine generations. By waiting three years for rootstocks to establish before grafting, the vines develop a strong root system, which results in fruit with better tannin and acidity balance. This focus on root development also allows for early dry farming, enhancing the wine’s purity and distinction. The vineyard teams manage the land through a “Vine Masters” program, where apprentices oversee specific vineyard blocks after a five to ten year training. This individualized care ensures each vine reaches its full potential in quality and longevity.

Winemaking:
The winemaking teams vinify the grapes from each property in accordance with the character of their land. For aging the wines, Harlan Estate and BOND use new and neutral French oak barrels, while Promontory employs larger casks made of Austrian oak. They evaluate the young-vine lots at the blending table between 6 and 14 months after fermentation, selecting the finest for inclusion in The Mascot. In total, The Mascot is aged in barrel for nearly three years prior to bottling and another 18 months in bottle prior to release.

Vintage:
The growing season in Napa Valley saw record-breaking weather events, with 80% of the total rainfall arriving before the new year. This filled vineyard ponds for the first time in two years but was followed by the driest three months on record, leading to an early bud break. The summer was generally average but slightly warmer. Harvest started 5 to 7 days earlier than the previous year and was 15% lighter but of exceptional quality. Overall, the harvest was the most condensed in recent memory.

Natural Winemaking:
Head of Winemaking Noel Basso has more than 20 years of experience with California vineyards and grapes. He is returning the brand to the purist philosophy of Founding Winemaker Tom Rinaldi, focusing on working in the vineyards and taking an unwavering grape-quality approach to each varietal. Minimal winemaker intervention allows the character and personality of the grapes to steal the show.

About the Winery:
Provenance Vineyards began in 1999 producing Rutherford Cabernets. Its founders had the vision to produce fine wines by discovering Napa Valley vineyards of unique “provenance” or origin. Over two decades, the brand was bought and sold twice and passed through the hands of two large corporations. Allen and Tiana Lombardi acquired Provenance Vineyards in November 2021 to infuse this iconic Napa Valley brand with the energy it deserves. Sandy loam and diatomaceous earth soils and the constant barrage from coastal winds, force our vines to focus their energy on producing concentrated berries, exemplified by the low yields. VISION:
Winemaker Landon Donley seeks to showcase the freshness and classic varietal character of the highest-quality Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons. Every aspect of the winemaking process is intentionally designed to ensure the wine’s structure supports and enhances the varietal character, resulting in a wine that overdelivers on quality and shows beautiful integration upon release.

VINEYARDS:
This Cabernet is structured primarily around valley floor fruit from two of their estate vineyards located in the St. Helena AVA, offering ripe fruit character, good structure and a smooth, long finish. Further complexity and elegance is added to the blend with the addition of estate mountain vineyards from AVAs including Mt. Veeder and Atlas Peak. The grapes are harvested by hand at night in small lots over the course of a few weeks, picked only when at the level that meets their style.

WINEMAKER NOTES:
The cellar is set up with every step intentionally designed to emphasize natural aromatics and varietal character. The grapes are chilled to 40°F to heighten aromatics and minimize astringency, then sorted by cluster then berry by our optical sorting system before undergoing a three-to-five-day cold soak. Careful yeast selection and an even, moderate fermentation temperature is key in maintaining the wine’s sense of place. Tannin extraction is constantly analyzed so the wine can be drained off the skins at the ideal flavor, concentration, structure and color, then finish fermenting to dry. The preliminary blend is assembled once the wine completes malolactic fermentation in tank to ensure integration, and ages in a selection of custom-toasted new and used French oak barrels from select coopers.

This captivating red wine is created from the same prestigious and incredible grapes that go into the creation of Trujillo Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. All rock star vineyards! The Madelyn Red Wine Cuvée gets the same royal treatment that the Trujillo Napa Cabernet receives. All French oak aged and the fruit is the same amazing quality vineyards. In this 2021, the team at Trujillo brings forth some Syrah which pushes the plushness in the wine even further. The blending of rich Cabernet Sauvignon as the foundation, complemented with a liberal amount of Syrah, plus a touch of Merlot to broaden and flesh out the base. Add in come Cabernet Franc to heighten the beautiful aromatics and it all ties into perfect harmony. A pleasant, inviting red wine blend that is approachable on release, yet only improves with time in bottle.

The wine’s texture is round, with classic Stags Leap District tannins surrounded by mouth-filling pomegranate juice and raspberry mocha flavors. These savory and sweet notes complement a generous serving of Gorgonzola Dolce on a crusty Pain au Levain boule. VINTAGE NOTES:
The 2021 growing season was a prime example of why Napa Valley is such a great place to grow grapes. The winter heading into the 2021 growing season was colder than average with a drier than average spring. There were four total heat events over the growing season with the May and September heat events being outside the typical range for that time of year. The rainfall for the year was below average for the fourth straight year, presenting a challenge for the grower due to irrigation ponds and wells being at levels that have not been seen since 2017. The summer growing conditions were exceptionally good, making for ideal berry development. Both bloom and veraison, which typically last two to three weeks each, were each over in about a week! The start of harvest was early due to September being very warm. This was good, because in October California experienced a series of atmospheric rivers that dumped 9.5” of rain that month. The yields for the year were below average, but from a quality standpoint, it was a vintage year!

VINEYARD:
Their steep, densely planted Stags Leap District Estate has been the heart of the winery since Pine Ridge Vineyards was founded in the farmhouse in 1978.

VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING:
The 2021 vintage was harvested from September 15th to October 19th. The grapes were hand-harvested at night when temperatures often dip to 50°F to capture vibrant acidity and fruit expression in the wine.

First, the must (crushed grapes) was cold-soaked for gentle extraction and then fermented in stainless steel, concrete and oak barrel fermenters at 88°F. Rigorous pump-overs, increasing during the peak of the fermentation, developed deep color, rich varietal character, and fine tannins in the wine. The wine was aged in 50% new French oak barrels to meld the bright fruit expression with oak spice nuances. After three months of aging, we blended the vineyard components allowing them to marry for a total of 20 months of barrel élevage. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered to present the attributes of the vineyard in the purest form possible, from the dirt to the glass.

VINEYARD DESCRIPTION:
The Taylor Lane Vineyard is located on the furthest western ridge of the coastal range, sitting just over the Pacific, looking out over the Faralon Islands. However beautiful as Taylor Lane may be, it was unlike any vineyard site the Belle Glos team had ever farmed along the California coast. The ruthless and challenging Pacific weather required years of farming innovation to get it right. The key was the similarity to Burgundy in the heat accumulation patterns. They consulted with a Burgundian winemaker to apply some of their traditional, old world techniques to make Taylor Lane a traditionally steeped, yet California Coastal Pinot Noir coming out of the true Sonoma Coast.
